PhysicsWallah Might Buy Drishti IAS for ₹2,500–3,000 Crore—A Big Move in EdTech!
Popular edtech company PhysicsWallah is reportedly close to buying Drishti IAS, a well-known coaching institute for UPSC aspirants. If this happens, it will be one of the biggest deals in the education sector in recent years.
Sources say PhysicsWallah is ready to spend ₹2,500–3,000 crore on the takeover. The two companies have been in talks since January, and the deal might be finalized soon. However, Drishti IAS CEO Vivek Tiwari has denied these claims, calling them rumors.
This comes at a crucial time for PhysicsWallah, as it prepares for its stock market debut (IPO). The company started as an online learning platform but is now focusing on offline coaching, hoping to make ₹1,000 crore from its physical centers by the end of FY25. Drishti IAS, which has been around for 26 years, earned ₹405 crore in revenue last year, with a ₹90 crore profit.
But there’s a challenge—while PhysicsWallah’s earnings jumped to ₹1,940 crore in FY24, its losses also shot up to ₹1,131 crore. If the deal goes through, it could give PhysicsWallah a strong position in UPSC coaching, but spending so much while dealing with huge losses could be risky.
Will PhysicsWallah pull off this big move, or will it struggle under financial pressure? We’ll have to wait and see!
